FERPA for Employees

The Office of Student Data Management and Access would like to announce the release of an important website dedicated to student data handling and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA):  https://ferpa.iu.edu.  Here you will find helpful information regarding faculty and staff privacy responsibilities, along with some hot topics, like:  handling student information during a crisis, procedures for releasing student information to third parties, and basic student rights granted by FERPA. Please take some time to read through the information presented in this site, and if you have any general FERPA questions, you may email us at ferpa@iu.edu.

In order to ensure Indiana University’s continuing commitment to protecting sensitive data, you may have received an email from USSS – Data Management requesting that you re-affirm your understanding of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act by completing the FERPA tutorial and short quiz by November 30, 2016.  Please note that this is a legitimate university request.  The tutorial may be accessed from the ferpa.iu.edu site, or by searching for FERPA tutorial in One.IU.

If you are unsure as to when you last completed the FERPA tutorial, you can look up this information by visiting: https://iu.edu/~usssapps/tools/compliance-lookup.

For your convenience, the FERPA tutorials can be found at the links below.
