Graduation with Academic Distinction

Graduation with Academic Distinction - Students with outstanding academic records may be eligible for graduation with academic distinction. Some colleges and universities use the Latin terminology (Cum laude, Magna cum laude, and Summa cum laude). Both Indiana and Purdue use English (Distinction, etc.).

A notation is placed on the student’s transcript and diploma and the student typically wears an honor cord at Commencement. Please note this recognition is different than completing a degree with Honors. For more on the Honors program and distinctions, visit IUPUI Honors Program. Specific grade point averages are set by the individual schools and no more than 10% of the school’s class may be graduated with this recognition. Other restrictions exist.
