Tobacco Law Notification

Smoking is prohibited on campus

Dear IUPUI Students,

As a reminder, IUPUI is a Tobacco Free Campus.  This means that there is no smoking or use of any tobacco products on the IUPUI campus.  Students violating this IUPUI and Indiana University policy will be referred to the IUPUI Office of The Dean of Students for appropriate administrative action.

In addition, as of July 1, 2012, Indiana State Law prohibits smoking in any IUPUI- owned or IUPUI-leased facility or within 8 feet of any entrance to those facilities.  (Ind. Code 7.1-5-12). Please be aware that the entrances to many of our campus buildings are defined to include areas such as stairways, balconies, and awnings.  IU Police has been charged with issuing citations ($150) to individuals who violate the Indiana State Law.

To assist those who want to quit smoking, we have compiled a list of cessation resources available via the Tobacco Free IUPUI website,

Students wishing to join the tobacco free educational effort for IUPUI should contact the campus Co-Chairs listed below.

Thanks for your cooperation with this campus policy and state law.  Remember, IUPUI is
Indiana’s Health and Life Sciences Campus.
